Do you remember when I created the new garden area dubbed the Garden of the Future? It was back in spring when the long wait for things like turnips, garlic, kohlrabi and asparagus seemed almost unfathomable when compared to the quick payoff one gets from crops such as radishes, chard and peas. Well, yesterday I came around the corner and realized that some weeding was both long overdue and necessary as I wanted to mulch with wood chips to help moderate the heat for the plants. The black of the grow-bags and weed cloth really do amplify the heat, and the straw I’d tried using as an insulating mulch was not visually appealing.
Having weeded, spread wood chips and watered, I gave the garden a second look and thought, “Hey, look at those kohlrabi and that six foot tall parsnip. It must be there future.”
