RECIPE: Mint, Hibiscus & Rosehips Tea – DIY throat soothing + vitamin C rich tea

This tea is wonderful for helping to stave off or kick that pesky crud that comes around every fall, when the weather changes and the kids go back to school, and then just when you’ve gotten over it, you get together with friends and family and get it all over again.  You know what I’m talking about.

This tea is as delicious as it is beautiful, and once you have the ingredients, it is very easy to make.   Drink it when you get that first scratch in the back of your throat.  The mint soothes and relieves, lemon, rose hips and hibiscus add vitamin C, honey and lemon sooth your throat.  Using a silver spoon will add a little silver to the mix, which can help to boost your immunities.

Equipment:

You will need is a one quart French Press, or your favorite tea pot and a strainer for the herbs.

Ingredients:

  1.  2 level tablespoons dried peppermint leaf
  2.  1 rounded teaspoon dried hibiscus
  3.  1 to  1.5 inches sliced fresh ginger root
  4.  1/3 cup fresh rosehips, cut in half, if possible
  5.  1 quart filtered water
  6.  1 lemon quartered
  7.  1 to 4 teaspoons honey

Bring the water to a boil in a kettle or pan.

While the water is heating, measure herbs, cut ginger pieces and to French Press.  Cut rose hips in half if possible.  Sometimes they are too hard and round to safely cut in half.  If that is the case, preserve your fingers and just let the tea steep a bit longer.

Wait about 5 minutes and then press the tea to strain.  Add lemon, stir in honey with a silver spoon.  Sip and enjoy, often.
